Here’s a tip I learned that makes running flat lines on a trolling spread much easier. After I let out enough line on the short flat line, I grab the mono near the rod tip and pull it down near the reel. Then I attach a rubber band to the line by placing the band around it and pulling one end loop through the other end loop. Lastly, I place the rubber band over the reel handle. I know a fish is on when I hear the rubber band snap, and there are no flat-line clips in the way.
