Aaron Benzrihem and Tyler Wald spent several days exploring and fishing Islamorada on the brand-new Mako 24 Apex. Before heading out on the water, they stopped by World Wide Sportsman to purchase new Penn tackle and stock up on terminal gear. The first day, they began by drifting with the tides near local bridges, waiting for fish riding the currents to pass through the channel. It wasn’t long before Aaron and Tyler spotted a mass of fish, quickly sight-casting soft plastic shrimp lures. To their surprise, they had found a school of pompano. Pompano are not a species you regularly sight fish in the Keys. They’re often found along the beaches in the suds. Within a short time, the two had several in the cooler. Over the next few days, the duo worked the channels and bridges, landing several impressive mutton snapper and jack crevalle.
