I’ve tried half a dozen cheap buoy markers, and they all failed in strong current. A quality marker was a little out of my price range, so I decided to make my own. I used a mouthwash bottle because the flared ends corralled the coiled line, and the square shape helped to stop it from spinning once the weight hit bottom. I simply filled the bottle with spray foam, secured the end of the line around the spout, then wound it around the waist of the bottle and tied a large trolling sinker to the end. The result was a cheap, easy and dependable marker.
