The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will hold public hearings next week and a webinar to take public comments on Reef Fish Amendment 45. The amendment considers management alternatives to extend or eliminate the red snapper sector separation sunset provision.
The American Sportfishing Association opposes a permanent sector separation as it pits segments of the recreational community against each other and limits fishing opportunities for anglers. Instead, managers should explore other options that would improve fishing opportunities for all segments of the recreational fishing community.
