WXPort, a subscription service from WeatherGlobe Technologies, combines real-time Doppler radar imagery with chart plotting. WXPort allows users to see the current position of their boats on the same on-screen chart as current weather patterns. Users can set waypoints and routes and track their boats’ movements in relation to weather activity in the area. WXPort requires a PC-based computer with a Windows operating system, an internet connection and a GPS unit with data output. To use WXPort while underway, a wireless Internet connection is required. The subscription service starts at $19.95 per month, and the company is creating a version for Northport Systems Fugawi PC-based chart plotting systems.
