Cod love jigs, and it’s more fun than fishing with conventional bottom gear.
This cod was fooled by a kabura-style jig.

Once the jig hits the bottom, start cranking slowly to bring the jig up off the bottom to catch fish like this sea bass.
You can fish the kabura jigs deep; this blueline tilefish bit in 300 feet of water.
Kabura jigs require a somewhat different retrieve than more-traditional jigs.
The jigs come in a wide variety of styles and colors, some of them quite unusual looking, but the large heads and undulating skirt action is decidedly effective.
