It was time to return to the promised land of tuna fishing, the Gulf of Mexico. One year ago we sent a boat full of fishing YouTubers to the oil rigs off Alabama, which resulted in one of our most epic trips to date. This year, the team decided to take a gamble. Instead of heading to the rigs, they set out to the infamous “lumps” where enthusiasts go to target giant yellowfin. However, there’s a downside to this strategy: the fishing is either feast or famine.
And so that statement proved true. The team set out of Dauphin Island, Alabama on a cold February morning, running over 80 miles to the lumps. On the first day, Viktor Hluben (Landshark Outdoors), Brook Crist (Brook Crist Outdoors), and Ryan Morie (@RyanMorie) threw the kitchen sink at the fish, only boating one yellowfin at the final hour of the day.
On the second day, the creators decided to fish the shrimp boats. They eventually threw in the towel and made their way back to the lumps after losing far too much tackle to sharks. Finally, Captain Kurt Tillman marked the tuna deep in the water column. This time the fish were fired up and feeding, and it wasn’t long before several giants were on the deck. The gamble had paid off, and the team were soon on their way home with a feast large enough to feed both family and friends.
Viktor Hluben (Landshark Outdoors)
Viktor Hluben loves sharing his passion for catching, cleaning and cooking fish. He graduated from Florida Atlantic University and was accepted into medical school, but he chose to launch a fishing show on YouTube instead. A student of the ocean, he is an advocate for respecting the catch on the water, at the fillet table and most importantly in the kitchen.

Brook Crist is a native south Floridian and an avid nature lover. Born into a family that lives for the outdoors, she’s been fishing, freediving and hunting her entire life. She’s passionate about inspiring others to get out in nature and enjoy everything that the wild has to offer.
Ryan Morie (@RyanMorie)
Ryan Morie is a full-time content creator based out of southeast Florida. After graduating from the University of Florida, Ryan served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. During his time on active duty he was able to document some outstanding fisheries near the bases on which he served. He now creates a wide variety of fishing content that documents both local and international adventures.
