Anglers looking for single or twin outboards to power popular sizes of fishing boats now have more options. Evinrude just released three new models in the growing G2 line-up. The new engines, 115 HO, 140 and 150 horsepower, are all direct-injection versions with three-cylinder power heads.
The new designs produce more torque and fuel economy at lower RPMs, which helps to extend cruising ability and range. The light-weight packages, available in two shaft lengths and with several options, are applicable for a variety of transoms ranging from flats boats to mid-size center consoles.
The benefits of the direct injection technology are numerous, Evinrude says. In addition to being emissions compliant globally, no break-in periods are required. The company also touts no dealer maintenance requirements for five years or 500 hours and no oil changes. The engines are backed by a five-year factory service coverage.
All three engines accommodate Evinrude’s digital throttle and shift, iTrim control system and digital instrumentation. Options include iSteer power steering, custom color panels and white or slate gray frames. Two new propeller lines, the RX3 and RX4, were also developed specifically for these engines.
During a recent test in a very choppy Charleston Harbor, the 115 HO performed exceptionally well mounted on a 19 Blazer Bay. The throttle response was impressive and the low-end torque could be felt immediately. The boat cruised easily in the mid-ranges, yet still had plenty of pep at the upper operating RPMs. The 115 HO was quiet and the new cowling design, graphics and color panels gave it a sleek and racy look.
