Downrigger Ball Hanging Hook

downrigger_ball.jpg
I never had a spot for my downrigger balls when moving from one fishing spot to another. I modified my Penn downriggers by drilling a hole through the tubular aluminum arm and affixing a 5/16″ eye bolt to the middle of the arm with locknuts. I bent the loop in the eye-bolt open, so I could easily hang the downrigger ball on it. I found that the middle of the downrigger arm is the best place for the hook, as this allows the ten-pound ball to hang free without touching the boat. – Ron Bailey, Wilmington, North Carolina
