The wind wasn’t going to stop Ryan Morie (@ryanmorie) and Tyler Wald (Suns Out Fishing) from taking the Mako 214CC offshore to chase pelagics. They spent two days riding the swells out of Jupiter, Florida, as they pitched live baits and artificial lures. On the first morning, the team freelined pilchards and sardines successfully, boating several mahi-mahi and bonito. When the bite slowed later in the day, Tyler began to slow pitch jig, which turned on the blackfin tuna bite. However, they soon retired for the day once the wind increased and swells grew to 4 and 5 feet.
With more favorable conditions, day two was destined for success. Ryan had just put out a fresh sardine on the flatline when his line started to peel off the reel. Within seconds, a sailfish was tailwalking on the surface, putting on a show for the camera. While Ryan worked on the sailfish, Tyler simultaneously landed a cow mahi-mahi. The rest of the day was filled with action as king mackerel, yellowtail snapper, mangrove snapper, and a monster jack crevalle made for a successful offshore adventure.
