Honduras Fly Fishing Report January 9, 2008
December was a relatively dry month on Roatan, with lots of sunshine and
great fishing conditions. Hungry bonefish and permit are plentiful on the
flats at this time of year and the bonefishing has been fantastic!
Anglers Ken Ashbaugh and Douglas Meyer both took advantage of this and
released many bones between 2-5 lbs on recent stays at Mango Creek Lodge.
The permit have remained elusive however after numerous chances and a
brief hookup by Ken.
Tarpon fishing has been good in the lagoons, but the snook bite has been
even better. Most fish are caught as they are cruising the mangrove edges.
Fish are averaging 8 lbs, with larger fish around. Bring your shock
tippets and keep them out of the mangroves! Both of these species are
exciting targets from a kayak.
**JANUARY 2008 SPECIAL**
If you can get away this month, Mango Creek is running a special until the
end of the month. Lots of hungry fish and little pressure…
