Fly angler John Cole was fishing the La Guaira Bank looking to catch blue marlin on the fly aboard the Vintage with Capt. Dave Noling. It was a slick-calm day with not a breath of wind and not many bites either. Then all of a sudden a spearfish piled on the right teaser. Cole had dreamed of catching a spearfish on the fly and thought he’d have to go to greater distances to get one, but luck was with him and he realized the dream after a short battle. This marks the first spearfish taken on fly in Venezuela.
Cole almost had a shot at a big blue when a 300-pounder nailed the left teaser. But the fish was quickly gone, taking the teaser with it.
